The Largest Onshore Wind Farm: Windpark Zeewolde
About this project
The 200 older wind turbines spread across the site made way for 83 larger, more advanced turbines. Together, they generate more than twice as much energy as the old turbines. Windpark Zeewolde now supplies green electricity to approximately 300,000 households.

Windpark Zeewolde had an ambitious goal: to triple energy output by replacing 220 outdated wind turbines with 83 advanced new turbines.
This had to be achieved within a tight schedule and without compromising on quality or safety. Complex challenges soon emerged:
- Engineering bottlenecks: The original design had to be reviewed and aligned with the execution specifications.
- A critical change of turbine supplier: Midway through the project, the supplier had to switch from Enercon to Vestas, with major consequences for both engineering and planning.
- Tight deadlines and high expectations: The execution schedule could not be put at risk at any stage.
