Engineering and Strengthening of a Groningen Farmhouse
Precision analysis using the latest technologies
During this project, VORM4 further developed and optimised the execution design, both in drafting and structurally. The existing drawings were updated on the basis of the available survey information. The point cloud and survey data were carefully analysed and compared with the existing Revit model. Identified deviations were incorporated, after which a revised and updated drawing set was prepared to match the actual situation.
In addition, we carried out an in-depth structural assessment in accordance with NPR9998:2020, with the aim of testing and, where possible, optimising the strengthening approach. This included the masonry, diaphragm action, foundations and structural connections. For the masonry, both an in-plane assessment using a SLaMA analysis and an out-of-plane assessment using the NLKA method were performed, including verification of the maximum crack resistance (PCR). The performance of the floor and roof diaphragms was also assessed, and the existing strip foundation was checked. The force distribution in the connections was determined on the basis of calculation results and spectra.
Based on our experience with comparable buildings, we concluded that a reduction in previously proposed strengthening measures was possible.
